INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE

Six works by the artist were selected to be a part of INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE, an exhibition curated by Jaimie Isaac and Julie Nagam. Three of the works are the original Trap Line Cabins that were part of Migrating Landscapes Exhibition by 5468796 Architecture and Jae-Sung Chon.

In response to the INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE exhibition the artist created three additional cabins that further discussed materials, methodologies and heritage. Utilizing floral patterning created by the artist's Great Grandmother, Margaret Paulin, a local moccasin maker in Ft McMurray, the work combined patterns with paper and reflective surfaces. The birch bark was foraged locally in Edmonton from a sacred area that Indigenous people have used for time in memoriam for locating minerals, and dyes. The corners of the birch bark cabin also reference log cabin construction details Métis people used during the fort era.
