You are standing in a space inspired by the entryway of houses in the North: a place where people are constantly passing through, setting things down, getting ready to go out or coming back home. This simple, familiar place serves as a starting point for imagining the way Inuit, First Nation and Métis communities in the North live on and with the land.
The objects in this porch, from clothes to tools to containers, evoke a way of life adapted to a demanding environment where every action counts. Here, everything meets a daily need and reflects a way of seeing the land as a space that shapes our everyday lives.
With this collaboration, the two artists highlight the knowledge, practices and self-reliance of communities in the North. The work invites us to imagine a different way of living: paying close attention to the seasons, the traces of the outside world and the ways in which people are connected to the environment.
